Canvas outage

May 8, 2026 Update: Canvas service has been restored 

Canvas, the learning management system, is currently unavailable due to an issue being experienced by the vendor that operates the system, Instructure.

The company recently disclosed a nationwide information security issue but reported that it had been contained. This afternoon, there appears to be an additional issue affecting the availability of Canvas for Instructure’s customers, which include Stanford and numerous other educational institutions nationwide.

We do not have an estimated time of service restoration. Instructure has been providing updates on its website.

The company reported that the original information security breach, which it has been investigating, involved “certain identifying information of users at affected institutions, such as names, email addresses, and student ID numbers, as well as messages among users.”
