Canvas service restored
As of 1:45 a.m. today, May 8, 2026, Canvas is back online and available to Stanford users. The unplanned outage was due to an issue experienced by Instructure, the vendor that operates the system.
In its ongoing investigation, Instructure reported that the original April 29 information security incident included “certain personal information of users at affected organizations. That includes names, email addresses, student ID numbers, and messages among Canvas users.”
Instructure has published a FAQ with details in which it indicates it has found no evidence that any additional information was compromised during the additional incident yesterday, May 7.
