Canvas Update - Spring 2026

Here’s what’s new for Spring 2026

(Additional updates will be added throughout the quarter. Newest updates at the top.)

Course Accessibility Checker Enhancements

The course accessibility checker now scans Announcements, Syllabi and Discussions. Previously, the tool only scanned Pages and Assignments.

SCORM Maintenance

The Canvas SCORM tool will be unavailable during the following times:

  • April 7 at 8:00 PM – April 8 at 2:00 AM
  • April 14 at 8:00 PM – April 15 at 2:00 AM

Files Redesign Update

Instructure has announced that they will not be sunsetting the original Files experience at this time. For the foreseeable future, instructors and students will continue to choose whether to utilize the Old or New Files view.

Assignment Enhancements (Students)

Starting March 25, 2026, students see a new and enhanced interface when submitting assignments and reviewing feedback. Students can now see previous attempt details including the submission file, feedback given, and grades. The new interface also introduces a progress indictor to let students know what stage they are at in the assignment workflow, a more upfront Peer Review button with new categories, and their submission and feedback directly on the main page. Students can refer to the Assignment Enhancements guide for more information.

Accessibility Checker

The Course Accessibility Checker provides a course-level tool that gives instructors an overview of accessibility issues and guided tools for remediation. The checker supports scanning Canvas Pages and Assignments only, but will include other parts of Canvas in future iterations.
