Stanford to retire Canvas ePortfolios

ePortfolios are collections of work that students curate to show what they have learned or created as a capstone project for a class or degree and/or to show future employers. Canvas has a native ePortfolio but it hasn’t been widely adopted and doesn’t seem suited to long term use, since students lose access to their Canvas ePortfolio after graduation.

Given that there are better options for creating and maintaining ePortfolios today* than there were when Stanford first adopted Canvas, we will be turning off access to the Canvas ePortfolio Dashboard after September 5, 2022. Without the dashboard, students will not be able to create new Canvas ePortfolios or easily access previously created private ePortfolios.

*Moving forward, current students who wish to share a few files can do so using Google Drive. They can create a Stanford hosted website at domains.stanford.edu or if they wish to create a commercially hosted portfolio site, can seek the advice of the Integrative Learning Portfolio Lab at eportfolio.stanford.edu

Current students with public Canvas ePortfolios

Current students with public Canvas ePortfolios have been encouraged to download ePortfolios and use an option above if they wish to make files available publicly, as their portfolio will be made private after September 5. They may email canvashelp@stanford.edu for assistance locating their hidden portfolio.

Current students with private Canvas ePortfolios

Students who created a private Canvas ePortfolio will find it to be inaccessible after September 5, 2022. They can email canvashelp@stanford.edu to get access to their Canvas ePortfolio content to download and/or delete it.

Former students with public Canvas ePortfolios

Students lose access to Stanford systems after graduation so they will not be able to edit or delete a previously created Canvas ePortfolio.  All public Canvas ePortfolios will be marked private after September 5, 2022. They should email canvashelp@stanford.edu for help recovering an old public portfolio.
